Basketball Game Preview: Griffith Panthers vs. Crown Point Bulldogs

Griffith is 2-7 against Crown Point since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Griffith Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Crown Point Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Griffith comes in on four and Crown Point on ten.

It was a proper cat-fight when Griffith challenged Wheeler on Saturday. Griffith walked away with a 50-40 win over Wheeler. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Bearcats are ranked 265th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Griffith to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaylan Rockett, who posted 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianni Feaster, who scored 14 points.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Crown Point's strategy against Merrillville on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Crown Point blew Merrillville out of the water with a 74-37 final score. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Griffith has also been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Crown Point, they pushed their record up to 10-0 with the victory, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Things could have been worse for Griffith, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 51-34 loss to Crown Point when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Griffith avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
