Baseball Recap: Newton County Academy Generals vs. Starkville Christian Cougars
Newton County Academy proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 13) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-9 win over the Starkville Christian Cougars. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Generals have posted since February 28th.
Cooper Thrash was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bryce Jones was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Gaines Boyd was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Newton County Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
The win got Newton County Academy back to even at 7-7. As for Starkville Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-1.
Looking ahead, Newton County Academy will face off against Lamar Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Starkville Christian, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Starkville Christian Cougars take on Regents Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
