Basketball Recap: Lower Brule Starts Season with Win on the Road

Lower Brule had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Marty Indian Braves, posting a 72-42 win. The Sioux have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Braves, too.

Lower Brule's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Payton Palmier led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards. Palmier has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Elliot LaRoche was another key player, going 5 for 9 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.

Lower Brule will take on Little Wound in a tournament on Wednesday. Marty Indian and Takini will compete for holiday cheer at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
