Softball Recap: Salem's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Salem managed to slip by Columbia the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wildcats came up short against the Eagles on Thursday, falling 8-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Wildcats haven't been shut out since back in April.

Breanna Thurman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Salem's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-3. As for Columbia, their victory bumped their record up to 21-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Salem will challenge Flora at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wolves will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Columbia, they will face off against Southwestern at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Piasa Birds have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
