USA Basketball’s next generation: Meet the U16 National Team

California guard among 12 earning a spot on U16 National Team.

USA Basketball announced the 12-player roster Monday for the 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, to be held June 14-18 in Argentina.

Here's a look at the young stars headed to the event:

Scott Barnes, 6-6, 195, G/F, Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach, Fla.)
Vernon Carey Jr., 6-9, 260, F/C, University (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
Jalen Green, 6-4, 165, G, San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno, Calif.)
R.J. Hampton, 6-1, 160, G, Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.)
De'Vion Harmon, 5-11, 185, G, Guyer (Denton, Texas)
Zion Harmon, 5-10, 160, G, Bowling Green (Ky.)
Wendell Moore Jr., 6-3, 200, G, Cox Mill (Concord, N.C.)
Jeremy Roach, 6-0, 175, G, Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.)
Jalen Suggs, 6-2, 185, G, Minnehaha Academy (Minneapolis, Minn.)
Isaiah Todd, 6-8, 180, F, Marshall (Richmond, Va.)
Romeo Weems, 6-5, 210, G/F, New Haven (Mich.)
James Wiseman, 6-11, 215, F/C, Ensworth (Nashville, Tenn.)



Carey Jr., Moore, Weems and Wiseman were all named to the MaxPreps Sophomore All-American Team in April. Barnes, Green, Hampton, Roach Suggs and Todd earned a spot on the MaxPreps Freshman All-American Team.

The United States is 20-0 in the FIBA Americas U16 Championship since 2009. The top teams in that event feed into the FIBA U17 World Championship.

Past U16 team members include Bradley Beal, Aaron Gordon, Malik Newman, Jahlil Okafor and Jabari Parker.
