Basketball Recap: West Florence Has No Trouble Against Lugoff-Elgin

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Westwood, West Florence was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 54-37 win over the Lugoff-Elgin Demons. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Demons back in January, they had to take a 53-39 loss.

West Florence found their leader in sophomore Kara Fluharty, who posted six points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 boards set a new season-high mark for Fluharty. Gabreille Gunter was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.

West Florence was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Lugoff-Elgin lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jordan Samuel, who scored 20 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Samuel is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Erin Manuel also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

West Florence's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-12. As for Lugoff-Elgin, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-13.

West Florence didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-10 loss against Spring Valley on the 29th. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 58-33 defeat against Sumter on the 28th.
