Baseball Recap: Lakewood Park Christian Takes a Loss

Lakewood Park Christian extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 3-17 in the process. They came up short against the Churubusco Eagles, falling 12-6. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Gavin Shinn made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Schlabach, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Churubusco, the victory snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 6-17 record. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the contest before.

On Churubusco's side, Ethan Hartsock looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Hartsock posted three strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four games.

At the plate, Churubusco let Dawson Gump and Cameron Patten run wild. Gump went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Patten went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Patten has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Drake Richards, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Lakewood Park Christian and Churubusco are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Panthers will take on Fort Wayne Canterbury at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cavaliers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.17 runs per game on average), something Lakewood Park Christian will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Churubusco, they will head out on the road to square off against Central Noble at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
