Preview: Macon Tigers vs. Van-Far Indians
The Macon Tigers will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Van-Far Indians at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Macon comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Macon's 22-5 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They took a serious blow against Chillicothe on December 12th, falling 59-32. While losing is never fun, Macon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 541st, while Chillicothe is ranked 209th).
Meanwhile, Van-Far scored the most points they've had all season to find success last Tuesday. They breezed by Community at home to the tune of 86-27. Considering Van-Far has won four matches by more than 20 points this season, last Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Nikos Connaway was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with seven assists and seven steals. The game was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Pacey Reading, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Macon's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-3. As for Van-Far, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2.
Macon suffered a grim 65-43 defeat to Van-Far in their previous matchup on December 7th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Connaway, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds.
