Basketball Recap: Cruz Chapman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gatewood over Augusta Prep

After flying high against John Hancock Academy two weeks ago, Gatewood came back down to earth. The Gators came up short against the Augusta Prep Cavaliers on Tuesday, falling 66-42. The Gators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cavaliers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

Gatewood lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Cruz Chapman, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lake Ferman, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Augusta Prep got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nathan Shepherd out in front who earned 15 points. Marrus Sweeney was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Gatewood's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Augusta Prep, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gatewood will host Piedmont Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Augusta Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Dominion Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
