Softball Recap: Hidden Valley Titans vs. Salem Spartans
Hidden Valley extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 6-9 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Salem Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-0 back in April.
Hidden Valley saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was CLAIR MITCHELL, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
As for Salem, they pushed their record up to 13-4-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games.
On Salem's side, Cora Robinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Cora Sparger was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Hidden Valley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 19-1 victory against Patrick Henry on the 15th. As for Salem, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 7-1 win against Christiansburg on the 14th.
