Softball Recap: River Hill Gets the Win

While River Hill's win against Long Reach wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 18-17 victory over the Lightning on Monday. With that win, the Hawks brought their scoring average up to 7.6 runs per game.

Annie Levine was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, Brooke Blakeslee was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those doubles were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Grace Gonsouland, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

River Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .587. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for River Hill and bumps their season record up to 4-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Long Reach, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, River Hill and Long Reach will both be playing Atholton the next time they take the field. The Hawks will head out to face the Raiders at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Lightning will host them at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
