Softball Game Preview: Ashley Screaming Eagle vs. Swansboro Pirates

The Ashley Screaming Eagle are taking a road trip to challenge the Swansboro Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ashley comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

On Tuesday, Ashley came up short against Topsail and fell 10-5.

Vayda LeQuire made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those hits were her first of the season. Leah Tuscany was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Swansboro was a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They came up short against Jacksonville, falling 9-1. The contest marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Addison McMillan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Swansboro saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katherine Cahall, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Swansboro dropped their record down to 3-3 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Ashley, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Ashley couldn't quite get it done against Swansboro in their previous meeting on Thursday as they fell 10-7. Can Ashley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
