Softball Recap: Sultana Takes a Loss

After flying high against Burroughs last Tuesday, Sultana came back down to earth. The Sultans fell just short of the Oak Hills Bulldogs by a score of 6-5 on Thursday. The Sultans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Savannah Vanderpool spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sultana saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaliyah Huizar, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Jordan Mullinax was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Sultana's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Oak Hills, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-8 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sultana will host Summit at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The SkyHawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.46 runs per game on average), something the Sultans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Oak Hills, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Burroughs at 3:15 p.m. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Burros have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
