Preview: Commerce Tigers vs. Athens Christian Eagles

Commerce and Athens Christian are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Commerce Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Athens Christian Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Commerce earned a 54-44 win over Elbert County. Given Commerce's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Elbert County is ranked 288th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Commerce got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Raven Parks out in front who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Parks hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Malay L miitchell, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Athens Christian put the finishing touches on their 11th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They really took it to Tallulah Falls for the full four quarters, racking up a 63-27 win at home. The win was familiar territory for Athens Christian who now have eight in a row.

The victory makes it two in a row for Commerce and bumps their season record up to 14-9. As for Athens Christian, they pushed their record up to 19-3 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home.

Commerce came up short against Athens Christian when the teams last played back in January, falling 44-39. Can Commerce avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
