The El Capitan Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Page Sand Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. El Capitan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 15.8 runs per game this season.
El Capitan will head out to face Page after giving up their first home loss of the season back in March. The Eagles came up short against Tuba City, falling 18-4.
El Capitan saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Barlow, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Page hadn't done well against Holbrook recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Sand Devils skirted past the Roadrunners 3-1. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Micheal Gonzales spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Andrew Cummings was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and one run. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kevin Sam, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Page pushed their record up to 15-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for El Capitan, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. El Capitan has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 13.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Page struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
El Capitan might still be hurting after the 18-0 loss they got from Page when the teams last played back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
