Recap: James Island Trojans vs. Colleton County Cougars
In what's become a running theme this season, the James Island Trojans gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. Everything went their way against Colleton County as James Island made off with a 57-35 win. Given James Island's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Colleton County is ranked 207th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Andrea Duncan continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 4-for-8 from long range and almost dropping a double-double on 29 points and nine rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of James Island's points. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Middleton, who scored five points.
When it comes to explaining why Colleton County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zariona Hudson. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points.
James Island has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for Colleton County, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.
James Island will head out on the road to square off against May River at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully James Island focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. As for Colleton County, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hilton Head Island at 6:00 p.m. Colleton County is coming into the contest with five straight losses at home, meaning Hilton Head Island will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
