Baseball Recap: Wright Drops Highest Score of Season Against Ewen-Trout Creek

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wright). They blew past the Ewen-Trout Creek Panthers 24-12 on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won nine in a row.

Landon Buerger made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and nine unearned) runs off nine hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Gallo, who got on base in all six of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Wright's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-9 when he doesn't). Brendan McCullough was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.

Wright kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.

Wright's record now sits at 6-9. As for Ewen-Trout Creek, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Wright beat the Panthers by a score of 22-6 later that day.
