Softball Game Preview: Maplewood Rockets vs. Mathews Mustangs

Maplewood is 0-10 against Mathews since May of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The Rockets will host the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Maplewood's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Grand Valley with a sharp 15-0 victory.

Addison Marker made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Emily Perline looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Claire Urchek was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Raegan Krieg, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Maplewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Mathews got the win against Lowellville on Tuesday by a conclusive 19-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Maplewood's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Mathews, their victory bumped their record up to 14-3.
