Basketball Recap: Kokomo Takes a Loss

Kokomo lost against McCutcheon back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Kokomo Wildkats fell 54-45 to the McCutcheon Mavericks. While losing is never fun, the Wildkats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Mavericks are ranked 15th).

When it comes to explaining why Kokomo lost, don't look at Makaela Drake. Despite the final result, she posted nine points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Eliana Stewart, who earned four points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Kokomo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Kokomo has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-3 record this season. As for McCutcheon, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Kokomo will venture away from home to square off against Hamilton Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Kokomo is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season. As for McCutcheon, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-63 defeat against Valparaiso on the 14th.
