Baseball Recap: Normal West's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Normal West dropped their record down to 16-9 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Maine South Hawks by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wildcats have suffered since May 18, 2024.

Drew Hart made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

As for Maine South, they now have a winning record of 13-12. The win was a breath of fresh air for they as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

On Maine South's side, Jack Gianikos looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Gianikos has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Maine South got a big performance out of Luka Stojakovic, who went 2-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Cole Mutchler, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Normal West will take on Danville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Maine South, they will venture away from home to face off against New Trier at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Trevians will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight.
