Softball Preview: Franklin Panthers vs. Marshall Barristers
Franklin hasn't had much luck against Marshall recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Barristers at 3:00 p.m.
Franklin is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Bravo on Friday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights.
Marshall's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Bravo on Monday. The Barristers came out on top against Wilson by a score of 14-9. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Barristers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Kathy Perera was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Perera was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Elaine Reynoso and Arianna Carrera did most of the damage at the plate: Reynoso got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI and one double, while Carrera got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Carrera has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jolie Evans, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Marshall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Marshall now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Franklin, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 5-4.
