Basketball Preview: Foxcroft None vs. Oakcrest Chargers

Foxcroft is 0-3 against the Chargers since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Foxcroft None's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Oakcrest Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on February 5th. Foxcroft's defense has only allowed 25.5 points per game this season, so the Chargers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
Even though Foxcroft has not done well against the Hawks recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Foxcroft took down the Hawks 32-17.
Foxcroft got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sarah Ford out in front who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tashae' Allen, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Oakcrest's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight defeat. They took a 51-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Saint John Paul the Great Catholic. The game was a 27-27 toss-up at halftime, but Oakcrest couldn't quite close it out.
Despite the defeat, Oakcrest had strong showings from Mary Mehan, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 24 rebounds, and Kate Newsome, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Mehan is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
The win got Foxcroft back to even at 5-5. As for Oakcrest, they now have a losing record at 8-9.
Foxcroft came up short against the Chargers when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 45-39. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Newsome, who scored 30 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Now that Foxcroft knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
