Football Recap: Wahkiakum Mules vs. Ilwaco Fishermen

Wahkiakum was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 28-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ilwaco Fishermen. The Mules were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Fishermen apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.

Wahkiakum's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gage Robinson, who picked up 147 receiving yards and a touchdown. Robinson was even better on defense, picking up two sacks and making eight total tackles (3.0 for loss) in addition to snagging an interception. Parker Leitz also helped out with an impressive 100 receiving yards.

Wahkiakum wouldn't let Ilwaco keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Wahkiakum can thank Andrew Ogle and Mason Waldeck for forcing both of them.

Wahkiakum's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Ilwaco, the win (which was their sixth in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 3-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wahkiakum will face off against Oakville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Oakville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 point or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Wahkiakum likes a good challenge. As for Ilwaco, they will square off against Morton/White Pass at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Morton/White Pass' favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
