Dayton extended their losing streak to 16 on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 10-17 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Elko Indians. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
LaSade Conti put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). Conti was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Esmeralda Hernandez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Macie Hannum was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
As for Elko, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since March 22nd.
Like Dayton, Elko also got a great game from a two-way player: Taylor Hunton. On the mound, she tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Hunton has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vanessa Romero, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Adausha O'Berto, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Dayton is set to challenge their familiar foe Lowry at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Elko will face off against rival Fernley at 2:00 p.m. on the 30th.
