Baseball Recap: Trinity Catholic Falls Despite Big Games from Matthew Wetherell and Aidan Elgart

Trinity Catholic fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against South Sumter on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (7-6), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-3 back in March.

Trinity Catholic got a good showing from Nate Colon, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Aidan Elgart and Matthew Wetherell did some serious damage despite the final result: Elgart scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Wetherell scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Tommy Silva was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI.

Trinity Catholic dropped their record down to 6-14 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for South Sumter, their record is now 14-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trinity Catholic will challenge Citrus at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last four games the Hurricanes have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for South Sumter, they will take on Hudson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
