The Manchester Squires are taking a road trip to take on the Northwestern Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Manchester is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Manchester took a 15-run loss the last time they faced off against Caston, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Squires sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Comets on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Squires as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Molly Schannep spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Manchester let Hadley West and Ava Sautter run wild. West went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Sautter got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Sautter has posted since back in March. Izzy Renz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Northwestern got the win against Northfield on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-1.
Stevie-Rae Hedges made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Maci Rody was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Northwestern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Northwestern's record now sits at 5-10. As for Manchester, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Manchester's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Squires have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Northwestern, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Manchester continue to outrun the ball?
