Baseball Recap: Nelson County Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Nelson County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past the Stuarts Draft Cougars 8-7. The Governors haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Lekota Shaver and Kevin Knight did most of the damage at the plate: Shaver went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Knight scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Knight a new career-high in RBI (two). Brody Clements was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

The win got Nelson County back to even at 2-2. As for Stuarts Draft, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.

Nelson County and Stuarts Draft will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. Nelson County will challenge rival Chatham at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Stuarts Draft is set to square off against their familiar foe Waynesboro at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
