Softball Game Preview: Cary-Grove Trojans vs. Jacobs Eagles

The Cary-Grove Trojans will challenge the Jacobs Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cary-Grove has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cary-Grove is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight games on Wednesday. They lost 12-4 to Hampshire.

Meanwhile, Jacobs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Crystal Lake South on Wednesday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Gators recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

The result came thanks to Skylee Ferrante's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, Jacobs secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Emily Popilek, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Popilek a new career-high. Avery St Leger also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Cary-Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 7-18. As for Jacobs, their victory bumped their record up to 14-18.

Cary-Grove was able to grind out a solid win over Jacobs when the teams last played back in April, winning 10-7. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
