Recap: Hueneme Vikings vs. Santa Paula Cardinals

After flying high against the Malibu Sharks last Monday, the Hueneme Vikings came back down to earth. Hueneme suffered a rough 67-41 defeat at the hands of Santa Paula on Thursday. Hueneme has not had much luck with Santa Paula recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacob Cunningham, who scored six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Juanillo, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Hueneme has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-21 record this season. As for Santa Paula, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-5.

Hueneme won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Nordhoff at 5:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hueneme is coming into the matchup with five straight defeats on the road, so Nordhoff is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Santa Paula, they will be playing at home against Holy Martyrs Armenian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Paula knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 games -- so hopefully Holy Martyrs Armenian likes a good challenge.
