Basketball Recap: Evergreen Comes Up Short

Evergreen was the 45-42 winner over Golden when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Evergreen Cougars fell 60-51 to the Golden Demons on Friday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Evergreen lost, don't look at Addie McEvers. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. McEvers has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Taylor Bailey, who posted eight points along with five boards and three steals.

Ashlyn Bates was her usual excellent self, going 5 for 10 on her way to 14 points and eight steals for Golden. Kempley Wellman was another key player, going 5 of 11 en route to 17 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Evergreen's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Golden, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-1.

Evergreen will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Ralston Valley at 7:00 p.m. Ralston Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.2 points per game this season. As for Golden, they will host Columbine at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Golden knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Columbine likes a good challenge.
