Volleyball Game Preview: East Greenwich Avengers vs. Barrington Eagles

The East Greenwich Avengers will square off against the Barrington Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (East Greenwich has three straight wins, Barrington has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

East Greenwich is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: North Smithfield, who was ranked 25th at the time (East Greenwich was ranked 15th). The Avengers blew past the Northmen 3-0 on Tuesday.

One reason for the win was East Greenwich's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-13, 25-10.

Meanwhile, Barrington lost 3-0 to Classical on Tuesday.

The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-16.

The victory got East Greenwich back to even at 4-4. As for Barrington, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: East Greenwich has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Barrington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Everything went East Greenwich's way against Barrington in their previous meeting back in May of 2021, as East Greenwich made off with a 3-0 win. Will the Avengers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
