Softball Recap: Muir Has No Trouble Against Arroyo

After only two runs in their last match, Muir made sure to put some runs up on the board against Arroyo on Monday. The Muir Mustangs blew past the Arroyo Knights 16-4. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Mustangs this season.

Gianna (GiGi) Butler made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Muir got a massive performance out of Ariel (Shorty) Flores, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. The dominant performance gave Flores a new career-high in RBI. Abigail (Abi) Milton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Muir always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Muir's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Arroyo, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Looking ahead, Muir will face off against Oxford Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Oxford Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season. As for Arroyo, they will take on Temple City at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Arroyo is facing Temple City at the right time seeing as Temple City is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
