Tupelo is 7-1 against Hernando since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Golden Wave will venture away from home to face off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Tupelo will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
On Friday, Tupelo made easy work of Southaven and carried off a 43-20 victory. Considering the Golden Wave have won four games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Kylan Bobo and Jaeden Hill. Bobo gained 178 total yards while Hill rushed for 130 yards on only six carries. Bobo's longest reception was for an impressive 58 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.
Tupelo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 255 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Tupelo's defense and their four sacks. Jareylan McCoy was especially locked on to Southaven's QB and sacked him twice. Tupelo received some extra help from Jermil Jeffries, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, Hernando gave up the first points last Friday, but they didn't give up any more after. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 22-21 win over Horn Lake.
The critical scores for Hernando came from Reid Sanders, Cooper Lankford, and Joseph Newberry.
Tupelo's record is now 6-1. As for Hernando, their record now sits at 5-1.
Everything came up roses for Tupelo against Hernando in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 35-6 victory. In that contest, the Golden Wave amassed a halftime lead of 35-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
