The New Lothrop Hornets are taking a road trip to square off against the Valley Lutheran Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
New Lothrop let Byron stack five runs on them in the second inning on Monday but luckily New Lothrop prevailed anyway. The Hornets came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 9-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hornets.

Logan Judd was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of New Lothrop's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Michael Schlachter and Jameson Kopschitz did most of the damage at the plate: Schlachter went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run, while Kopschitz got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most stolen bases Schlachter has posted since back in May of 2024.
New Lothrop always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Valley Lutheran gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Nouvel Catholic Central 3-1. The win continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.
Trey Flood-Captain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Valley Lutheran's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Axel Schuette, who went 2-for-4 with one run. Jacob Grimpo also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Valley Lutheran pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for New Lothrop, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
New Lothrop was able to grind out a solid win over Valley Lutheran in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 19-16. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
