Basketball Recap: Mount Academy Takes a Loss

While it was all tied up 33-33 at halftime, Mount Academy was not quite Ellenville's equal in the second half on Monday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to the Ellenville Blue Devils. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now lost seven in a row.

Mount Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Maendel, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 35.7% of Mount Academy's points, marking the sixth time in a row Maendel has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Bruce Maendel, who went 6-for-14 to rack up 17 points.

Ellenville was led to victory by Alen Ibric and Kwaku Boahen. Ibric dropped a double-double with 19 points and 13 boards, while Boahen dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards Ibric has posted since back in February of 2024. Koltin Pickell was another key player, putting up six points.

Mount Academy's loss dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Ellenville, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 14-5.

Mount Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Ellenville, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 73-42 defeat against New Paltz on the 26th.
