Basketball Recap: Johnston Panthers vs. Coventry Oakers
Johnston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 77-40 loss at the hands of the Coventry Oakers. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Oakers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Coventry was led to victory by Brayden Martin and Riley Finegan. Martin dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten assists, while Finegan went 8 of 12 on his way to 20 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Martin's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elliott Shockley, who went 5 for 6 on his way to 12 points and six rebounds.
Johnston's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Coventry, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Johnston and Burrillville will compete for holiday cheer at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday. Burrillville has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 199 points over their last three matchups. As for Coventry, they will head out to take on Westerly at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
