Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Carlos Acuna and Jovanni Fernandez Lead St. Augustine Catholic to Victory

There's no place like home for St. Augustine Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Catalina Trojans on Monday, sneaking past 48-46. That's more bragging rights for the Wolves, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leading St. Augustine Catholic to victory were Jovanni Fernandez and Carlos Acuna. Fernandez went 5 for 9 on his way to 12 points and three steals, while Acuna posted 18 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Acuna's evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

St. Augustine Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Catalina, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Augustine Catholic will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Santa Rita at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Catalina, they will venture away from home to face off against San Tan Foothills at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
