Softball Game Preview: Fannett Metal vs. Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs

Fannett Metal hasn't had much luck against Claysburg-Kimmel recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Fannett Metal will be playing at home against Claysburg-Kimmel at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Fannett Metal sitting on four straight victories and Claysburg-Kimmel on 13.

Fannett Metal proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 19) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Everett 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Fannett Metal has posted since April 22, 2024.

Meanwhile, while Claysburg-Kimmel put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Southern Fulton. The Bulldogs blew past the Indians 10-0. Considering the Bulldogs have won nine games by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Launa Musselman made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Harlee Harcolerode, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Bella Francona was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Fannett Metal's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, they pushed their record up to 13-0 with the win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season.

Fannett Metal suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Claysburg-Kimmel when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can Fannett Metal avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
