Basketball Preview: Solebury Spartans vs. Tournament Opponent

The Solebury Spartans will take on Tournament Opponent at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Solebury has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 789 points over their last 11 matchups.

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Solebury ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Shabach Christian Academy Blue 83-80. The victory was all the more spectacular given Solebury's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 285th in Pennsylvania, while the Eagles are ranked 84th in Maryland).

Solebury's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Simpson, who scored 27 points. Simpson is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 17 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Makhai Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Tournament Opponent took a serious blow against the Warriors on Saturday, falling 59-23.

Solebury's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.0 points per game. As for Tournament Opponent, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 19 of their last 23 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 73-268 record this season.

Solebury strolled past the when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 64-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Solebury since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
