Basketball Recap: Scotlandville's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Saturday

On Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, the Scotlandville Hornets beat the Independence Tigers 49-45. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Tigers are ranked 197th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Independence's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Haymann Milton, who posted 17 points. What's more, Milton also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Kordell Hines was another key player, putting up 12 points and six boards.

Scotlandville's victory bumped their record up to 17-7. As for Independence, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-15 record this season.

Coming up, Scotlandville will head out to take on Woodlawn-B.R. at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Independence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Port Allen at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Independence is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.7 points per game this season.
