Baseball Recap: Clopton Wins Going Away Against Wellsville-Middletown

Clopton got themselves on the board against Wellsville-Middletown on Friday, but Wellsville-Middletown never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Tigers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Hawks also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Peter Daskalakis made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Daskalakis was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on John Grillo, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Tucker Salmons, who scored two runs and stole a base.

Clopton has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 14.0 runs this season. As for Wellsville-Middletown, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coming up, Clopton is taking a road trip to square off against Winfield at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Winfield has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.75 runs per game on average), something Clopton will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wellsville-Middletown, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Louisiana at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
