Softball Recap: Davison Cardinals vs. Clio Mustangs

Davison had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-12 to make it five. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clio Mustangs. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2017.

As for Clio, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

For Clio's part, Addie Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. Taylor has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kelcy Sperling, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Ashlyn LaFreniere also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Davison will head out to challenge Bay City Western at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cardinals are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Clio, they will square off against Hartland at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
