Preview: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders vs. Pioneer Diamondbacks
The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders will head out on the road to take on the Pioneer Diamondbacks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North suffered their biggest loss since November 30, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 80-25 loss at the hands of McAllen Memorial. While losing is never fun, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 965th, while McAllen Memorial is ranked 168th).
Meanwhile, Pioneer had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against Rowe by a score of 56-43. 56 seems to be a good number for Pioneer as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Pioneer got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Joshua E Gaither out in front who scored ten points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Julian Valdez, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North and nudges their season record down to 8-13. As for Pioneer, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North might still be hurting after the 53-30 defeat they got from Pioneer in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Pioneer's Edward Chavez, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.
