Criminal investigator and Potomac volunteer equipment manager turns self in after allegedly punching one of nation's top junior linebackers.

The father of a Potomac (Dumfries, Va.) High School football player has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and battery for allegedly punching the star player after a game with Hylton (Woodbridge, Va.) on Oct. 28.

The Washington Post reported that Edward Steven Bosak turned himself in to police earlier this week and was released on personal recognizance.

Police documents state that Bosak "struck the victim in the face with his hand and also grabbed the victim and began pushing him backwards."

The victim was Hylton linebacker E.J. Levenberry, considered one of the top juniors in the country.

According to witnesses, Levenberry's father Eric and video, a man attacked as the players lined up for a postgame handshake. Hylton won the game 19-7, is 10-0 on the season and ranked fourth in the state, according to MaxPreps.com.

Potomac finished 4-6.

Eric Levenberry told the Post that he was happy that Bosak had turned himself in and that he "was brought to justice. ... My family is still in the state of shock."

Bosak's attorney Blair Howard told the newspaper: "...Based on his unblemished record and what I know about his background, this is totally out of character for (Bosak)."

Bosak works as a criminal investigator at the Treasury Department and is Potomac's volunteer equipment manager. He wouldn't comment to the Post on the incident, but said "the truth will definitely come out."

Potomac Athletic Director Bill Stearns said the alleged behavior was totally out of character and noted Bosak's many good deeds, like passing out food gift cards to players in need.

Hylton Athletic Director Sal Colangelo seemed satisfied with how all handled the unusual circumstance. Game security is an ongoing problem that needs to be handled, he said.

Despite the incident, Hylton had no problem during its regular-season ending 42-7 win over Osbourne Park on Friday. The Bulldogs open the state 6A playoffs Nov. 18 after receiving a first-round bye this week.

Levenberry leads the team with 94 tackles to go along with 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, four pass deflections and five caused fumbles.
