Softball Preview: Valley Vikings vs. Johnson Warriors
The Valley Vikings are taking a road trip to face off against the Johnson Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Valley has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with six straight defeats, while Johnson will come in with three straight wins.
Valley lost 30-15 to Burbank on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, while Johnson put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Fairfield. The Warriors put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 11-0 victory. Considering the Warriors have won six contests by more than ten runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Angelene Gonzales made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Kayla Madison was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Avery Taylor also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Johnson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairfield only posted an OBP of .118.
Valley's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Johnson, their record is now 8-2.
Valley suffered a grim 18-2 defeat to Johnson in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
