Basketball Recap: Coahoma County Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Coahoma County entered their tilt with Independence on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They came out on top against the Independence Wildcats by a score of 54-43. Given the Red Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 129th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Coahoma County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caleb Hearns, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards. Hearns is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last 16 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zech Smith, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brandon Avant, who posted ten points. Jax Wilson was another key player, putting up nine points.

Coahoma County has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points per game. As for Independence, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-7 record this season.

Coahoma County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-47 win against Holly Springs on the 17th. Independence has also already played their next game, a 58-51 loss against Senatobia on the 17th.
