Baseball Game Preview: Big Foot Chiefs vs. Monroe Cheesemakers

The Big Foot Chiefs will challenge the Monroe Cheesemakers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Big Foot fell victim to Turner and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Trojans, falling 10-0. The loss continues a trend for the Chiefs in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost nine in a row.

While Monroe didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Whitewater with a sharp 16-3 win on Thursday. The Cheesemakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.

Logan Meier and Cam Newcomer did most of the damage at the plate: Meier went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Newcomer went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Meier is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Marcus Ott was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Monroe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Monroe and bumps their season record up to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Big Foot, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Big Foot took their victory against Monroe in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. Do the Chiefs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cheesemakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
