Basketball Recap: University Hawks vs. Weir Red Riders
Make it six blowout wins for the University Hawks this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Weir 80-43 at home. Winning may never get old, but University sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
University was led to victory by Hannah Stemple and Ella Simpson. Stemple scored 19 points along with five steals, while Simpson almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Stemple has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Johnson, who scored 11 points.
University is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. As for Weir, they dropped their record down to 8-11 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. University will take on the Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Bridgeport will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the Hawks are ranked 18th). As for Weir, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Blue Dons at 6:00 p.m. Madonna is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
