Basketball Recap: Red Lake Warriors vs. Kelliher/Northome Mustangs
The Red Lake Warriors lost against the Kelliher/Northome Mustangs back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Red Lake took a serious blow against the Mustangs, falling 103-42. Red Lake has not had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lilia Pemberton, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Pemberton is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Kelliher/Northome's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kate Thayer, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Thayer is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Thayer, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Red Lake's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Kelliher/Northome, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-2.
Red Lake will face off against the Bears at TBD on Thursday. Clearbrook-Gonvick is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Kelliher/Northome, they will head out on the road to challenge the Drakes at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Blackduck will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 82nd).
