Softball Recap: Santee Falcons vs. Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears

After flying high against Diego Rivera last Wednesday, Santee came back down to earth. The Santee Falcons fell victim to a tough 18-1 defeat at the hands of the Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears on Tuesday.

Santee saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Giselle Pelayo, who went 2-for-2 with a triple.

On Port of Los Angeles' side, Jimena Vargas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Vargas has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive pitching appearances. Vargas was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4.

Santee's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6. As for Port of Los Angeles, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.

Santee didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 14-11 win vs. Jefferson on the 17th. Port of Los Angeles has also already played their next game, an 11-0 victory against Fremont on the 18th.
